The day started out with me arriving at my friend Derrick's house at around 5:30 a.m. He was unable to hunt but I planned on giving it another shot as it was the Muzzle Loader season in the eastern part of NC. I got in my stand before sunrise and had an uneventful morning. I decided I was going to stick it out all day, and boy am I glad I did! Around 2:30 in the afternoon I had a nice cow horn buck walk into range at about 20 yards! It turned into a staring match for a bit as when I moved to get turned around to take the shot my tree stand made some noise. The deer stopped feeding and looked right in my direction. I froze and waited for him to start to feed again and I raised my gun and took the shot. As I was reloading I kept my eye on him and saw that he was hit good!! He went out of sight about 50 yards away but was moving very slowly so I knew he would go down soon. I decided to give it about 45 minutes before starting to track. Derrick came out and we tracked the deer and found him about 75 yards away! My first Buck in NC and my first deer of the year! The freezer is looking much better now :) Although it is just a large spike (about 9 inch spikes on each side) it will taste just as good! I've posted some more pictures in our media section. Check them out!
